"Incident at Oglala:
The Leonard Peltier Story"

A Murder. A Mystery.
A Mockery of Justice.

What are the Facts? And What Is The Truth?

In 1975, armed FBI agents illegally entered the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Gunfire erupted - a Native American and two FBI agents fell dead. After the largest manhunt in FBI history, three men were apprehended - only one, Leonard Peltier, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. This is his story.

Followed by a discussion.

Robert Redford appears in film to present:
A Film By Michael Apted

"In 1988, "The Thin Blue Line" helped free an innocent man. Now, as a man's life hangs in the balance, comes a true portrait of American injustice that is even more shocking." (from front cover of video)

From the very beginning, Peltier's case has been dogged with controversy. The charges have been dogged with controversy. Were the charges trumped up, was the evidence falsified, were witnesses pressured to change their testimony? Many people, among them some of today's greatest legal minds, believe that Peltier is an innocent man.

Twelve years ago, Robert Redford visited Leonard Peltier in prison. Today, after years of struggle with the FBI and the prison system, he and director Michael Apted ("Gorillas in the Mist", "Coal Miner's Daughter") are able to present INCIDENT AT OGLALA - a riveting examination of the case and the real story of what may be one of the most outrageous abuses of justice in American history.

Leonard Peltier, a citizen of the Anishinabe and Lakota Nations, is a father, a grandfather, an artist, a writer, and an Indigenous rights activist. He has spent more than twenty-seven years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Amnesty International considers him a "political prisoner" who should be "immediately and unconditionally released." He is the Peace and Freedom Party’s candidate for President of the United States.
- Leonard Peltier is an imprisoned Native American considered by Amnesty International, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, National Congress of American Indians, the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Center for Human Rights, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Rev. Jesse Jackson, amongst many others, to be a political prisoner who should be immediately released.

- The Wounded Knee occupation of 1973 marked the beginning of a three-year period of heightened political violence on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The tribal chairman hired vigilantes, self titled as "GOONS," to rid the reservation of American Indian Movement (AIM) activity and sentiment. More than 60 traditional tribal members and AIM members were murdered and scores more were assaulted. Evidence indicated GOON responsibility in the majority of crimes but despite a large FBI presence, nothing was done to stop the violence. The FBI supplied the GOONS with intelligence on AIM members and looked away as GOONS committed crimes. One former GOON member reported that the FBI supplied him with armor piercing ammunition.
