"Critical Thinking
/ Public Speaking":
A Workshop with Robert Jensen |
Sponsored
by South Bay Mobilization:
Few
things scare people as much as speaking in public,
especially in front of large groups. Too often people
look at the great public speakers and say, 'I could
never do that -- I'm no Martin Luther King, Jr.' Well,
that's partly right -- you're no MLK. Neither am I.
But everyone has the capacity to communicate clearly
to an audience. That audience might be one person
who stops at your political table to ask a question,
a small group at your church, or the crowd at a large
political gathering.
Whatever the level of speaking you do, this workshop
can help improve the quality of your arguments and
your ability to deliver them clearly. My AAA method
helps people develop the skills and confidence needed
to help people who 'could never do that' start to
do exactly that. What is the AAA method? You have
to take the workshop to find out.

"Unconstitutional:
The War On Our Civil Liberties"
Fall
of 2001
brought us assaults against Americans' comfort zone
on many fronts. We learned that we could fall victim
to attacks on US soil, and we learned that those guarantees
provided to us in the Constitution were equally vulnerable.
Unconstitutional: The War on Our Civil Liberties, is
the third in a series of Public Interest Pictures films
that follows Unprecedented: The 2000 Presidential Election
and Uncovered: The War on Iraq. True to their legacy,
Unconstitutional provides the facts and stories that
illuminate administration lies, wrongheaded policies,
and the real victims of these actions - the American
people.
UNCONSTITUTIONAL reveals how paranoia, fear and racial
and ethnic profiling have led to the subjugation of
our constitutional rights, without protecting us from
future terrorist attack. Through personal stories, the
film explores how detentions and police infiltration
of ordinary Americans has been based solely on unconstitutional
directives from the White House and the Justice Department.
Followed
by a discussion.

After
producing and/or directing more than 50 television
movies, miniseries and feature films, director Robert
Greenwald expanded his creative focus in 2001 to include
documentary filmmaking. Inspired by the vote-counting
in Florida, he executive produced the 2002 documentary,
Unprecedented: The 2000 Presidential Election. He
also produced and directed Uncovered and Outfoxed:
Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism.
UNCONSTITUTIONAL is a new, hour-long documentary from
Robert Greenwald -- one of the most prolific and progressive
producers in Hollywood -- in conjunction with the
ACLU. This new film, written, directed and produced
by Nonny de la Peña, details the shocking way
that civil liberties of American citizens and immigrants
alike have been infringed upon, curtailed, and rolled
back since 9/11 and the USA Patriot Act.

President
Bush Misleads American Public on Patriot Act in Presidential
Debate
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, October 8, 2004
WASHINGTON -- In response to President Bush's call for
support of the USA Patriot Act during tonight's debate,
the American Civil Liberties Union said the Patriot
Act was enacted in haste without adequate debate and
that Congress should revisit it, not make it permanent.
"President Bush misled the American public in
tonight's presidential debate when he said that under
the Patriot Act -- every action requires a court order,"
said Anthony D. Romero, ACLU Executive Director. "In
fact, just two weeks ago, a federal judge ruled portions
of the Patriot Act unconstitutional because they don't
require a court order."
