A Woman Among Warlords:
The Extraordinary Story of an Afghan Who Dared to Raise Her Voice
A Talk & Book Signing by
Malalai Joya
Malalai Joya has been called the bravest woman in Afghanistan. Elected to the Afghan parliament in 2003 and 2005, she was suspended in 2007 for challenging the presence of warlords in the Afghan parliament. She has been compared to the symbol of Burma's democracy movement, Aung San Suu Kyi.
Malalai Joya will talk about her memoir:
"A Woman Among Warlords: The Extraordinary Story of An Afghan Who Dared Raise Her Voice".
Read Johann Hari's article about his meeting with her: "Malalai Joya: The Woman Who Will Not Be Silenced" The Independent (7/28/09)

What I Saw in Gaza!
My Account of
Israel's War on Gaza
A Talk & Multimedia Presentation by
Barbara Lubin
Founder of Middle East Children's Alliance (MECA)
On Jan. 21st, 2009, after waiting ten hours at the border
between Egypt and Gaza, Barbara Lubin entered the Gaza Strip.
Come join us to hear her story about what she saw.
“The destruction and trauma in the Gaza Strip is even greater
than I expected,” says Lubin. She saw bombed out homes and
universities, overcrowded UN schools, and people were given
just minutes to evacuate their homes.
Sabreen, a young woman from Rafah, told Lubin,
“We are a strong people. No matter how many times
Israel bombs us, we are not leaving.”

and injured people living under occupation, visit www.mecaforpeace.org

A Multimedia Report Back
from Occupied Palestine
With social justice activists,
Donna & Darlene Wallach
Donna and Darlene Wallach, Bay Area social justice activists, have just returned from Palestine, after living in the Gaza Strip from August to December, 2008. They witnessed first hand the brutality of the Israeli occupation and blockade of Gaza and experienced the impact of Israel's collective punishment of Gaza living alongside ordinary Palestinian people.
Come listen to Donna and Darlene speak about the spirit, resilience, kindness, generosity, and sense of humor of the Palestinian people and the peaceful ways they survive the extreme hardships of Israeli blockade and violence.
Back in August, 2008, both Donna and Darlene joined with other human rights workers to break Israel's blockade of Gaza. They sailed to Gaza on the SS Liberty and the SS Free Gaza to become the first people to freely enter Palestine in 41 years! Visit FreeGaza.org for more about the Free Gaza Movement.

Protest!
Stop the Massacre
of Palestinians!
Show solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza, the largest open-air prison in the world, still under siege, still under a brutal blockade by Israel for more than a year, which brought their economy to a deadly halt. Demand an immediate end to the murderous attacks carried out by the Israeli military using US weapons against the people of Gaza, which have killed over 700 people in Palestine just since 1/3/08.
Israel claims this is about Hamas, but Israel placed Gaza under siege before Hamas was democratically elected by the people of Gaza. This has nothing to do with Hamas, and everything to do with removing Palestinians from their land by any means necessary, in violation of international law.
Sign the open letter to Obama to End the Occupation of Palestine!
Contact your representatives, demand that Israel STOP their invasion and bombing!

We can. We did. We will.
Civilians Break Israel's Siege of Gaza
On Aug. 23, 2008, two small boats, the SS Free gaza and the SS Liberty, safely landed in Gaza, breaking the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip. When they arrived at the Port of Gaza, they were greeted by the cheers and joyful tears of thousands of Palestinians who came out to the beaches to welcome them.
The boats were crewed by a determined group of international human rights workers from the Free Gaza Movement. Meet one of the human rights workers from California and hear his historic report-back on what they experienced and what they saw. Don't miss this multimedia presentation!
SBM is co-sponsoring this event with 2 other organizations because we are inspired by these civilians and the others in the Free Gaza Movement who were willing to act lawfully, peacefully and nonviolently on Aug. 23rd, 2008 to challenge Israel's collective punishment of the Palestinian people: Israel's Siege of Gaza. By peacefully breaking Israel's Siege of Gaza, these human rights workers stopped a war crime, the collective punishment of the Palestinian people, which was a violation of the 4th Geneva Convention. Come join us to hear what happened.

Israel, Palestine and the Rule of Law
A Symposium on
the Rights and Wrongs of
Israel's Occupation of Palestine
with Prof. Norman Finkelstein and
and Prof. John Dugard
It's probably the most important judicial ruling regarding peace and justice in the Middle East that you've never heard about.
In July 2004, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), known as the World Court, gave a landmark opinion in favor of Palestine on borders, the Wall, settlements, and Jerusalem, which are all final status questions on Israel's occupation of Palestine. Come hear Prof. Norman Finkelstein and Prof. John Dugard discuss this landmark opinion to create a just and peaceful resolution of the Israel Palestine conflict.

US
Empire's Accomplishments:
As
of 5/25/09:
1,334,235
Iraqi Civilians Killed
Extrapolated from
7/1/06 thru 5/25/09 using the
rate of deaths from
IraqBodyCount.org
(IBC)
times the Lancet Study estimate (thru 7/1/06).
As of July 1, 2006, IBC: 47,288
As of 5/25/09, IBC: (92,108 + 100,555) / 2
= 96,331.
96,331 / 47,288 = 2.03711 ==> death rate
increase.
Using Lancet study death toll as of 7/1/06:
654,965.
1,334,235 = 654,965 * ( 2.03711
)
Note: The UK ORB study also confirms that over
one million Iraqi civilians have been killed.
These numbers below are clearly under-reported
but these are the numbers for which
we have references.

"Iraq Conflict Has Killed a Million Iraqis"
In the January, 2008 update to this study,
ORB wrote the following on their website: |
| "Further survey work undertaken by ORB, in association with its research partner IIACSS, confirms our earlier estimate that over 1,000,000 Iraqi citizens have died as a result of the conflict which started in 2003." - Notice that they won't say what also started in 2003: The US Invasion & Occupation of Iraq. |
- Does not include 567,000+ Iraqi children
killed by 13 years of US sanctions
(nor the number of adult deaths due to lack
of
medical care/equipment/medicine), nor any
of
several hundred thousand Iraqis that
were
killed by the US military in Iraq in Gulf
War I.
The sum for these deaths are
well over 1 million
- caused by policies architected by
both Democrats and Republicans.

over 500,000+
Iraqi children (confirmed
by Secty of
State Madeleine Albright on 5/12/96 on "60
Minutes"), and
the number of Iraqi Civilians killed
by Americans is well over...
1,000,000
Iraqi Civilians Killed!
(Some
estimates go as high as 2,000,000!)

Not
persuaded yet?
Then you aren't digging deep enough. The
more you look, the more you find. Example:
On 11/21/04, the Wash. Post reported
that 400,000
Iraqi children are suffering
from chronic "wasting" disease.
Any way you look at it, the
horrifying genocidal body count
just keeps going up.
